Conventional lithium-ion batteries use liquid electrolytes, which can pose leakage/oxidation risks; if the casing is compromised and the liquid is exposed to oxygen, it may lead to ignition or explosion.

CIO’s semi-solid-state cells engineer the electrolyte into a stable “clay-like” / “sponge-like” structure, reducing liquid content to ~5%.

Even in extreme tests including nail penetration, the cells are described as highly resistant to ignition or smoke.
